Why punctuality matters

Posted 7th October 2026

At Dixons Croxteth Academy, we want every student to start the day successfully. That's why we encourage all students to arrive by 8:15am, ready for morning meeting at 8:20am. Arriving on time ensures students are prepared, settled and ready to learn from the very start of the day.

In our latest video blog, Mr Duggan discusses the importance of punctuality, strong attendance and the vital role parents and carers play in helping students arrive on time each day.

It's important to understand the difference between a late mark (L code) and a U code:

  • Students who arrive late before the registers close will receive an L code, which still counts as present.
  • Students who arrive after the registers close at 8:50am will receive a U code. A U code counts as an absence for that session and will reduce a student's overall attendance percentage.

Every minute of learning matters, and repeated late arrivals can quickly add up to significant lost learning time. By helping your child arrive before 8:15am each morning, you can support excellent attendance, prevent U codes and ensure they benefit fully from morning meeting and the school day ahead.

Watch Mr Duggan's latest video blog to find out more about why punctuality matters and how we can work together to support every student's success.
