Geography field trip - Year 8 coastal walk
Posted 16th June 2026
Year 8 geography students recently took their learning beyond the classroom to investigate the impacts of coastal erosion along the Sefton coastline.
During their fieldwork, students travelled between Crosby and Formby, where they worked both in groups and independently to collect a range of primary data. This included observing coastal features, measuring changes in the landscape, and identifying the different methods used to manage erosion in the area.
Back in the classroom, students carefully analysed their findings, considering how effective these coastal management strategies are in protecting the coastline and surrounding communities. This hands-on experience helped to deepen their understanding of key geographical concepts and develop valuable fieldwork and data analysis skills.
The trip was a fantastic opportunity for students to see geography in action, and they demonstrated excellent teamwork, curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the day.
